VILMA SANTOS - Certified Batangueno

WHY DID WE VOTE FOR VILMA SANTOS?

I am a batanguena. I was registered in Batangas to exercise my right of suffrage and naturally, I have to choose whom will I think would be best to lead Batangas. Admit it or not, it's kinda shameful that we have to elect a non-natural-born batangueno to be able to attain a progressive life with someone who could lead and someone whom we'll follow. However, we're more thankful than awful that someone is willing to stand out and be with us. Oh yes, I'm talking about Governor Vilma Santos. I voted for her actually. Perhaps, I am a little influenced by those movies I have watched, especially those movies that made me cry so hard. Nonetheless, I have no bad things to say about her being a politician.

Seldom I have been to Lipa City because I lived in Batangas City. When I went to college, that's the time I monthly tasted the town. I remembered that Lipa was like a typical provicial town that from time to time became a busy day. The terminal of buses going to Manila can be found in Lipa, so there's no way I will not notice the changes that happened to it. Maybe I am not in the right position to say what did Gov. Santos had done to Lipa 'coz I am not a resident there. But, I am quite involved because I want to and I have to.

Governor Santos, probably won't be the best politician, but has been the best example of embracing the responsibilities as a politician. She stressed on one of her interviews before the election, "I am not promising heaven and earth." Surely, being in politics and in the position, so to speak, is neither heaven nor earth. It's smells like spoiled and tastes like hell. Politics is the dirtiest place in the Philippines, especially in Batangas. One can possibly afford to take lives just for the position. A promising position that burns, that threathens, that kills. The Vilma Santos we knew, whom I knew from the movies, seems helpless and retiring. But, her own sovereignty proved us all wrong. She's indeed helpless, in terms of doing illegal things like blatant corruption. She's indeed retiring, in terms of bragging her triumphs. She is a leader and nothing will change that.

And now, the applauses do not cease the existence of the very fact that the real torment is about to begin. We voted for Vilma Santos with the simple reason that we believe in her. We didn't received any promises nor changes. We just have received a light that we gamble to believe will brighten the whole town of Batangas, 'coz she is our leader. "If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader." WE ARE HOLDING ON WITH CONVICTION THAT SHE CAN DO MORE. Please, do not disappoint us.
